  Gifts Link Plus Module

• An increasing proportion of communication between grant managers and grantees now takes place via email. GIFTS stores data and documentation generated over the grant management life cycle, some of which has been generated or exchanged with the grantee via email. GIFTS will contain a complete record of grant management related data, documentation and communications, in particular, written communications. While there are many functional processes built into GIFTS to facilitate this, the capturing of email data not generated within the GIFTS system is supported by this module. Specifically, emails received from grantees, and replies made within the grant managers' email client, can now simply be incorporated into the GIFTS database.
• The purpose of the GIFTS Link Plus module (GOI) is to automate the processes whereby email data generated and accumulated within Microsoft Outlook is stored within the GIFTS Document Management system. The application will enable the user to select one or more emails from any Outlook message folder, relate them to specific entities within GIFTS, and store them in a GIFTS Document store, with the appropriate pointers being written to the GIFTS database.
  
  GIFTS Database
  
  It would be easy to forget that behind all of our products is a backend database that has evolved through careful refinement over 20 years of software development.  A database management software system can only achieve the level of quality, flexibility and stability supported by the underlying data structure used in the back-end.  In other words, a poorly designed data structure will function as a ceiling on the capability of the software system, resulting in continuous frustration, inconsistencies, and will contribute to poor overall software design.  
  Clients, who have had reason to directly interact with the GIFTS database, and to learn about the data structures we use, have consistently commented on its thoughtful design, adherence to relational database design principals, and overall rationality.  We regard the GIFTS database as a critical asset in our overall technology infrastructure.  There are two specific areas that deserve highlighting. 

  The GIFTS coding structure is the logical backbone of our database that enables you to tag and organize each record in your database according to a hierarchical scheme unique to your organization.  Having a database full of information is worthless unless you can extract that information in ways that make sense for your organization, and effective coding in GIFTS ensures that you'll be able to fully leverage information in every way possible.
  Finally, it is important to note that the GIFTS database is supported on three different backend relational database management systems: Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server and the Oracle Databases.  This ensures that our clients are able to use the backend technology that makes sense for their organization, with respect to cost, manageability, and scalability. The GIFTS database is a single database containing the primary data store, user profile data and audit data.
